Jordan Was Driven Back
Please turn with me in your bibles to Psa 114. I want to read that whole chapter. (ver.1 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; ver.2 Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion. ver.3 The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. ver.4 The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. ver.5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? ver.6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? ver. 7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; ver.8 Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.)
Coming Out Of Egypt
The very first thing I believe we need to set our attention to, are the things which took place just before the people of God were delivered out of Egypt.
God had given Moses instructions to give to His people concerning a Passover. It was going to be a bitter night for the Egyptians, but a Glorious night of observance, protection, and preparation for God's people, as God is putting things in order for their great deliverance out of the bondage of Egypt.
That night the Lord was going to pass through the land of Egypt, and kill the first born of the Egyptians; from the kings house right on down. And as the Lord was passing through the land there was only one thing that would set the people of God apart from the Egyptians: and that was a COVENANT OF BLOOD! And I want to say, that, the same thing is true today, there is one thing that sets the church apart from the world, and all the dead religions of this world. It's the COVENANT OF BLOOD we have! This is not just any BLOOD we're talking about: IT'S THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS! Shout Amen Someone.
God would be looking for the BLOOD OF A SPOTLESS LAMB on the door post, and down the sides of the door when He passed through the land of Egypt that night. For God had promised Moses: WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER THAT HOUSE! But all the places which did not have the BLOOD OF A SPOTLESS LAMB on them, felt the STING OF DEATH upon them.
So Moses instructed God's people to take a SPOTLESS LAMB for each house, slay it, then take it's blood and put it on the door posts and down the sides of the door, so that when the Lord would pass through the land that night, to bring death upon the ungodly, they would be safe inside because of the BLOOD.
He also instructed them to take the LAMB inside with them, roast it with fire and EAT IT; with their loins girt, and their shoes on their feet: because in the morning their COMING OUT OF EGYPT!
That night as the Lord passed through the land of Egypt, a bitter cry was heard from the Egyptians as they felt God's hand of judgment upon them for the hardness of Pharaohs heart, as their first born were destroyed. But God's people were safe inside their houses, protected by the COVENANT OF BLOOD, and EATING ROAST LAMB!
The Word of God lets us know, that, that coming morning God's people were being lead by Moses OUT OF EGYPT! And THERE WAS NOT ONE FEEBLE ONE AMONG THEM! And Friend, that was under the OLD COVENANT. But lets look at what the Word of God says in Hebrews 8:6 about the NEW COVENANT which Jesus obtained for you and me. (But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.) I want to let you know, that, as a Child of God, God the Father has provided for you through His Son Jesus ALL THINGS THAT PERTAIN UNTO LIFE AND GODLINESS! Look at 2 Pet 1:3 & 4 with me. (According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: ver.4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.)
There was NOT ONE FEEBLE ONE AMONG THEM which partook of that OLD COVENANT and first Passover, which in all of it's observances pointed to the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who through His atoning BLOOD, and the strips made by that crude whip which ripped his body, the offering up of his life, and taking His life back through His resurrection on the third day, would destroy the power of the devil "sin, sickness, disease, lack, and death " in the lives of ALL who would BELIEVE and RECEIVE through FAITH and OBEDIENCE! Shout GLORY.
The Sea Saw It
Friends, they left Egypt BLESSED. And as they came to the Red Sea, something beyond the natural was taking place. The word of God said: When Israel came out of Egypt, THE SEA SAW IT! I want you to know that, all the creation of God recognizes the Blood Bought, Blood Covered, Blood Washed, Covenant Keeping people of God! And satan knows them too. And just like Pharaoh, who's heart was hardened against God and God's people, and set out to bring them back in bondage again; satan also hates to see you delivered from his kingdom, and sets out to bring you back into a life of bondage.
But Praise be to God, we don't have to go back; we can go FORWARD! You may say: BUT THERE'S A RED SEA IN THE WAY. Let's look at Psa. 114:3 again. (The sea saw it, AND FLED.) When the sea saw it's creator in the midst of the children of Israel, and it realized that God was taking His people FORWARD, lead by Moses, who is now standing on it's bank's with his rod stretched out over it at God's command; It knows it's time to move out of the way, and LET GOD'S PEOPLE COME ON THROUGH!
This was not just an ordinary multitude gathered on it's bank's: THIS IS THE PEOPLE OF GOD!
You see, the Egyptians tried to go through the midst of the sea also, but God didn't make that way through the sea for the world; He made it for His people. And the sea saw that God wasn't working for the Egyptians. It saw it's creator come down in the midst of it, and take of their chariot wheels, and when the sea saw that God wasn't working for the Egyptians, it closed up it's waters on them at God's command.
Rom 8:31 declares, (What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?) Now as a child of God there will be many things that will come against you. But none of these things shall PREVAIL as long as you are following the Lord and Walking and Living in His New Covenant. Jesus said in Mat 16:18b ( And upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.)
There are some who are reading this, that are constantly in fear that someone is going to put you under a curse or spell. I've come to let you know that: THE WORLD CAN'T CURSE, WHAT GOD HAS BLESSED! And as a child of God; YOUR NOT UNDER THE CRUSE, YOUR UNDER THE BLESSING! Go ahead and Praise the Lord.
Now the world hates to see God's people blessed. But I didn't get saved to please the world, or to satisfy it's want's. God's promise to you and me is, if we Follow Him, Keep His Commandments, and Do those things that are Pleasing to Him; He said He would BLESS US COMING IN, AND GOING OUT. That we would be blessed in the Country, and in the City. And that He would COMMAND THE BLESSING TO OVERTAKE US!
Friend, I'm having a hard time confining myself to this desk, as I'm typing this message. I've got to stop for just a moment and shout: WELL GLORY!
Let's take a look again at the first part of ver.5, (WHAT AILED THEE, O THOU SEA, THAT THOU FLEDDEST?) In other words, What was it that caused you to RETREAT IN TERROR? Was it just because a man is standing on your bank with a rod stretched out over you? Was it just because a few million people are camped on your shore, and want to get to the other side? No, it's because your creator, and their God is leading them forward, and not even you and your vast waters can stop God from delivering His people from the enemy who wants to destroy them, and leading them onward in VICTORY.
Jordan Was Driven Back
Ver.3 says, (The sea saw it, and fled: JORDAN WAS DRIVEN BACK!) Now when the Red Sea saw God working on Israel's behalf, it just moved out of the way, and let them cross over to the other side. But not so with Jordan. God's word says Jordan had to be DRIVEN BACK.
I want to show you in the last part of Josh 3:15 the obstacle and hindrance God's people are faced with in crossing over Jordan. (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,) The Jordan River was at it's greatest strength, and it knew it.
Everyone of us as God's people have had obstacles and hindrances like Jordan, which tried to bar our way to the promises of God. You may be face to face with a Jordan right now, that's set on keeping you from crossing over into the promises of God.
One thing needs to be understood about this SWELLED UP, PRIDEFUL, RAGING JORDAN: IT'S NOT JUST GOING TO MOVE OUT OF YOUR WAY; IT HAS TO BE DRIVEN BACK!
Child of God, you may be faced with an obstacle and hindrance that is at it's greatest in your life, that trouble may even be laughing at you, and boasting in it's SWELLED UP, PRIDEFUL, RAGING FLOW. But there's no cause for worry and despair, FOR BY THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY GHOST THAT TROUBLE IS GOING TO BE DRIVEN BACK AND, AND WE'RE GOING ACROSS!
Let's look at 2 Ki 2:7 & 8, 13 & 14 ( And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan. ver.8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. ver.13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; ver.14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.)
Noticed what they used to smite the waters of the Jordan with to drive it back, so they could cross over on dry ground. THE MANTLE! You see, the MANTLE represents the ANOINTING! I'm talking about the ANOINTING OF THE HOLY GHOST!
God told Zerubbabel in Zec 4:6, (Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.) Here the Lord encourages Zerubbabel not to trust in his might, or power, or the might and power of man, to complete the great work in which he had been called by God to do, and to overcome all the obstacles, troubles, and hindrances he would face, but rather he was told to TRUST IN THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD!
And then again Isa 10:27 God declares, (And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.) I've come to let you know, that, your TROUBLES, PROBLEMS, OBSTACLES, and HINDRANCES are subject to the ANOINTING! And to the ANOINTING THEY MUST SUBMIT!
I believe there's one thing that we which have been serving the Lord for years now, have found out: JORDAN AIN'T MOVING UNTIL IT'S HIT WITH THE ANOINTING! Even before it moved out of the way to let the children of Israel pass through, the ANOINTED High Priest had to put their feet in it's SWELLED UP, RAGING WATERS. And when the ANOINTING that was in the priest touched Jordan, it was DRIVEN BACK, and God's people crossed through on dry ground, into the promises that God said He would give unto them.
Your Not Crossing Any Other Way
In closing I want you to look with me at 2 Kings 2: 8, 13 & 14 again; (And Elijah TOOK HIS MANTLE, and wrapped it together, and SMOTE THE WATERS, and they were divided hither and thither, so that THEY TWO WENT OVER ON DRY GROUND. ver.13 He took up also THE MANTLE of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; ver.14 And HE TOOK THE MANTLE of Elijah that fell from him, AND SMOTE THE WATERS, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and WHEN HE ALSO HAD SMITTEN THE WATERS, THEY PARTED HITHER AND THITHER: and Elisha WENT OVER.) Did you notice that Elisha didn't say: I THINK I'LL TRY TO USE SOMETHING TO DRIVE JORDAN BACK, SO I CAN CROSS OVER. No, he knew there's only ONE WAY to DRIVE JORDAN BACK, and to get across; and that's the same way they passed through it the frist time: by USING THE MANTLE!
Jesus sent the early church to the Upper Room to terry until they were ENDUED WITH POWER FROM ON HIGH. He didn't give them permission to do anything after He left, UNTIL THEY HAD RECEIVED THE FULLNESS OF THE HOLY GHOST; POWER FROM ON HIGH! Only then can we Work the Works of God, and see the JORDANS OF THIS HOUR DRIVEN BACK. And friend, your not crossing some NEW WAY or by trying to do it some other way. THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO GET ACROSS, AND THAT'S BY THE ANOINTING!
